The workshop

It started as a building, not a brand.

Maren Wells began as a small workshop in Orange, California, where we'd been pouring candles for years before we ever put our own name on one.

The longer we poured, the more the candle aisle bothered us. The “clean” candles wouldn't show their work. The affordable ones were poured overseas, months before anyone lit them. Nobody would tell you when a candle was made, because the honest answer was: a long time ago.

So we made the candle we wanted to buy. Poured here, dated on the label, priced like it's meant to be lit.

What's in the wax

Picky, because you're going to breathe it.

Soy wax, melted and poured here. A cotton wick. Fragrance screened against the strictest lists we could find: no phthalates, nothing classified as a known or suspected carcinogen, mutagen, or reproductive toxicant. All of it printed on the front.

Fragrance starts to fade the day a candle is poured.

So we pour a run when it is ordered, not months ahead and not off a pallet that has been sitting somewhere warm. Every jar leaves dated on the front, which means you can check us on it.
